Call for Deshpande Center Momentum Grants

We are pleased to announce the 2025 call for proposals for the newly launched Momentum Grants, a joint initiative between the MIT Deshpande Center for Technological Innovation, the MIT Health and Life Sciences Collaborative (MIT HEALS), and the MIT Climate Project.

These grants support research and translation to accelerate promising technologies toward real-world impact. Each award provides up to $125,000 in funding for one year, along with dedicated mentorship from Deshpande Center Catalysts to help teams define plans for further technology development and commercialization milestones.

Applications must be submitted by MIT Principal Investigators (PIs).

Available Grant Tracks

Two grant tracks are available:

  • MIT HEALS-Deshpande Center Momentum Grants
Focused on technologies that address critical challenges in health and life sciences and align with the core mission of HEALS. Ideal proposals break disciplinary silos, ask new and ambitious scientific questions, develop solutions to problems or bottlenecks, harness cutting-edge technologies, and have the potential to transform health and life sciences.

  • Climate Project–Deshpande Center Momentum Grants
Focused on solutions to critical problems or bottlenecks in the global climate response that require innovative, cross-disciplinary approaches. Proposals must feature a solution that relates to more than one of the six Missions of the Climate Project and have the potential to deliver impact at scale.

Both tracks prioritize interdisciplinary collaboration and a clear path to impact and implementation.

Funding Timeline

Applications open August 18, 2025, and are due by October 15, 2025. Principal Investigators on selected projects will be notified in December, with funding to begin January 1, 2026, and continue through the calendar year.
