The Education Program develops and curates climate education resources with MIT Open Learning, which — backed by its expertise in the science of learning — provides the platform to host and share them.
One of the current projects is the development of the new Universal Climate and Energy (UCE) offering, part of the broader Open Learning initiative known as Universal Learning. This initiative — spanning topics that include AI, Biology, Manufacturing, and Healthcare — is designed to educate external audiences on critical, interdisciplinary, and cross-cutting challenges.
The Universal Climate and Energy course focuses on bridging climate and energy knowledge and application, equipping learners for impactful careers and civic engagement. It contains 10+ self-paced modules on climate change science, impacts, and solutions, as well as the ways climate and energy intersect with policy, economics, culture, and technology. Learners can also “stack” specialized vertical modules based on their interests or professional needs.
Beyond this, the Education Program has a long history of working with OpenCourseWare (OCW) and MITx — both departments within Open Learning — to design resources such as:
- The Climate Justice Instructional Toolkit (to be published on OCW soon)
- The Climate, Environment, & Sustainability Infusion Fellowship Pointer Page
- Online Symposium for Geothermal Energy Networks
- Environmental Justice, Science and Technology MITx Course
